Trans-pacific Murderers are on the loose.

Tokyo’s Murder Channel hits release 20 with hard-working Chicago staple Chrissy Murderbot’s “Greatest Hits *****” EP. “Greatest Hits” deserves all kinds of quotes because this is actually all new material and remixes – but you know they will BECOME greatest hits, so why not just call them that from the start?

Murderbot is fully in the Juke and Footwork mode of his last LP Women’s Studies on Planet Mu, as well as all the recent tracks on his own Loose Squares label. The EP also makes sonic nods to two of his other loves, classic Jungle and even more classic Chicago House. “Slang It” has all the awesome cut-up tricks of a modern footwork track, “Why” smoothes the way for sweet love-making at double-time tempo, and “What You Are To Me” is a UK ‘ardcore classic reworked for a whole new generation of ravers under the crazy surgeon’s scalpel.

But the original 6 tracks are only half the story – because Murder Channel called in the A list for remix duty. Manchester’s Star Slinger turns in a raved-up house version of “Pew Pew”, Oslo’s Slick Shoota bumps the tempo from 140 up to 160 on his remake of “What Should I Do”, label staples Cardopusher and Pacheko channel every Freestyle production ever into Footwork speed for their take on “Why”, and Russia’s next generation Footwork master Pixelord gets soulful with his bass-infused remix. Had enough? If not, there’s banging remakes from the Japanese Juke scene’s originator DJ Fulltono, slowed-up Trap from Sidney Looper.

It might be surprising to find a Juke / Footwork / Bass EP on Murder Channel, Tokyo’s longest running outpost for Breakcore and other freakishly noisy experiments. But fear not – label boss Ume Murder Channel has this to say to you – “Murder Channel wants to tell all Hardcore People that True Hardcore / Heavy Bass is not a genre. It is simpler than that, and deep is dope.” If there’s one man in the world who understands that philosophy, it’s Chrissy Murderbot.
